hydrolytic class 1, clear and amber glass glass in hydrolytic class 2, amber glass glass in hydrolytic class 3, clear glass
hydrolytic class 1, clear and amber glass:
Glass types in hydrolytic class 1 are more suitable than those in hydrolytic class 3 for more sophisticated requirements and can withstand a degree of warming, such as heating in a water bath, and/or moderate temperature changes. They should not be inserted into the hottest part of a bunsen burner flame when cold unless they have been gradually pre-heated. These types are resistant to chemicals and suitable for use with samples that are sensitive to changes in pH.
hydrolytic class 2 amber glass and hydrolytic class 3 clear glass:
Glass types from hydrolytic classes 2 and 3 are suitable for mixing and for simple laboratory work, and can withstand moderate warming, such as heating in a water bath, and/or moderate temperature changes. These types should not be heated over a naked flame. The chemical-resistance of these types is limited.
